Memories in writing from Sue Hamrick Jenniges:
We lived on Nesbit Ferry Way. The bus never came down that road because it was a dirt road and terribly bumpy. We had to walk to where Holcombe Bridge Rd intersected with Nesbit Ferry Way. It was a short walk and my dad cut a path through the woods for us so that we did not have to walk on the road when it rained and was muddy. We had quite a crowd at that bus stop. All of us alone was a crowd because at one point, between Newtown and Milton,my mom had nine of us in school. Also, at the bus stop was the Davis family. Remember Sharon? The Broome family. Remember Delores and David. David was younger and has since passed. Peggy Barnes was there and the Sharpton girls. Jeannie and Marie, they moved before graduating Milton and were a few years older than us. Jeannie died from a brain seizure when she was only 28. You may or may not remember them. Tim Mock and the Wilson girls, Elaine and Linda, though you may not remember them either because they were older too. The main thing I remember about that bus ride was Hubert Reeves teasing me about Steve Anglin and Nancy Fouts hogging the bus heater in the back when it was cold.

1st Grade - Mrs. Sue Bagley - remember going to her house for a cook out
2nd Grade - Mr. Bobby Hamil- remember he was strict, but nice to me.
3rd Grade - Ms. Myrtle Alexander - remember that she walked very loudly and was strict.
4th Grade - Mrs. Jane Morgan - very sweet lady
5th Grade - Mrs. Alice Brown - remember her hair always looked perfect
6th Grade - Mrs. Frances Hardin- my very favorite teacher and was so happy to have her twice
7th Grade - Mrs. Frances Hardin
I have nothing but great memories of Newtown Elementary. When I was in the fourth grade I went the whole year and did not miss a day. I wanted that silver dollar that was the reward. Real disappointed when they stopped giving them that year. The lunches were great there and the school was always clean.
